Abstract

With an estimated population movement of nearly six million people by 2030, this will result in significant greenhouse gas emissions if intercity travel trends remain unchanged. Therefore, more sustainable transportation is needed. To support this, this study aims to determine the sociodemographic characteristics and travel behavior of intercity transportation users on the Jakarta-Surabaya route. Analysis was conducted in 402 respondents to obtain these results. The data obtained were then cross-tabulated. The gender composition of respondents in the survey was predominantly female and the majority were aged between 21 and 30 years. Most respondents belonged to the high socioeconomic status group and traveled more than twice per month. Conventional rail services were the most popular mode of transportation, with the majority of non-business trips across all socioeconomic status groups
