Abstract

The implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and digital technologies in the construction industry offers massive efficiencies, yet its widespread adoption still faces various systemic and individual constraints. This study aims to comprehensively map the landscape of challenges, opportunities, and strategic solutions in construction digitalization through an integrated theoretical lens. The research method used is a systematic literature review of ten prior journals relevant to the related topic. The collected empirical data were then analyzed using deductive thematic analysis techniques based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework and the Diffusion of Innovations (DoI) theory. The analysis results indicate a strong interconnection between macro-systemic barriers (DoI) and users' micro-psychological factors (TAM). The main industry challenges stem from high perceived complexity due to limited human resource competence, a low cultural compatibility with conventional work practices, and a lack of mandatory government regulations that restricts the trialability of the technology. Nevertheless, multidimensional data automation offers high relative advantage opportunities in reducing costs and error risks. As a solution, multi-stakeholder synergy is required through mandatory government regulatory interventions (coercive pressures), intensive training programs to boost perceived ease of use, and long-term IT infrastructure investments. Synchronization between legal certainty and human capability enhancement is the key to the successful and sustainable diffusion of digital innovations.
