Abstract

Indonesia’s high seismicity and soft soil condition (Site Class SE) in Surabaya necessitate a rigorous seismic evaluation of vital facilities. This study evaluates the seismic performance of the 5-story BKD East Java Province building, a reinforced concrete structure utilizing a dual system, using Linear Time History Analysis (LTHA) with Spectral Matching. Seven historical ground motions were scaled to the SNI 1726:2019 design spectrum following the NIST GCR 11-917-15 guidelines, employing seven ground motions permits the evaluation of structural responses based on their average values. The evaluation focused on base shear, story drift, and FEMA 356 performance levels. The results demonstrate that the dynamic base shear from all matched records fulfilled the minimum equivalent static requirement. The X direction response was more critical than the Y directionThe average story drifts were 0.0158 (X) and 0.0117 (Y)both strictly complying with the SNI 1726:2019 allowable limit of 0.02According to FEMA 356 criteria, the building performs at the Immediate Occupancy (IO) level for stories 1 and 2 in both directions. However, the drifts for stories 3 through 5 in both X and Y directions exceeded the IO limit, reaching the Life Safety (LS) level. Since global building performance is governed by the most critical structural response, the overall seismic performance level is categorized as Life Safety (LS). Ultimately, the structural stiffness satisfies current code requirements and exhibits adequate capacity to withstand dynamic seismic loads.
