Abstract

Rainwater harvesting (PAH) has become an important strategy for improving water sustainability in urban and institutional environments, especially in regions experiencing increasing water use. This study presents a hydrological potential analysis of rainwater harvesting systems for two newly constructed buildings at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY). The assessment focuses on estimating the volume of harvestable rainwater based on historical rainfall data, rooftop catchment characteristics, and runoff coefficients appropriate for the building materials. The analysis applies a rainfall–runoff approach to calculate monthly and annual water yield, as well as to evaluate system efficiency under various rainfall scenarios. Results indicate that both buildings possess substantial potential for rainwater collection, with estimated annual yields capable of supporting non-potable water needs such as toilet flushing, landscape irrigation, and cleaning. The findings demonstrate that UAJY has substantial hydrological potential to transition toward a Blue Campus model. The total maximum volume of rainwater for Laboratory Building is 852,836.71liter/year and 693,526.25 liter/year for the Student Center. Implementing PAH is not only technically feasible but essential for long-term water security in campus. This study provides essential quantitative insights to support the integration of rainwater harvesting infrastructure in future campus developments.
