Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the performance of Pandanaran Road in relation to the influence of side friction. The road segment experiences high side-friction activities, which have the potential to reduce road performance due to activities occurring along the roadside. Primary data were collected through field surveys, including road geometric characteristics, traffic volume, vehicle speed, and side-friction data. The analysis of road performance under both existing conditions and side-friction conditions was conducted based on the Indonesian Highway Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023. The analyzed parameters included road capacity, degree of saturation (DS), vehicle speed, and level of service (LOS).The results indicate that during the peak hour on Sunday from09:15 to 10:15 AM, Pandanaran Road had a capacity of 1,872.64 pcu/hour, a degree of saturation (DS) of 0.62, an average speed of 32 km/h, and a Level of Service (LOS) C. Three improvement alternatives were evaluated, resulting in an increase in road capacity to2,000.32–2,106.72 pcu/hour, a reduction in DS to 0.53–0.58, and an increase in vehicle speed to36–37 km/h. Although these alternatives did not change the LOS category, which remained at LOS C, they were proven to improve road performance and maintain traffic flow stability.
