Abstract

Yogyakarta is one of the regions in Indonesia with a high level of seismic vulnerability, as evidenced by the 2006 earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9. Therefore, structural response analysis is essential to ensure the safety and serviceability of buildings in this area. In the design of earthquake-resistant buildings, dynamic structural analysis is required to obtain a more accurate representation of structural behavior. This study aims to compare the structural responses obtained using the Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA) and Time History Analysis (THA) methods for different building plan configurations. Structural models with square, T-shaped, and L-shaped plans were developed using ETABS V22 software. The evaluated parameters include base shear, structural irregularity, displacement, and story drift. Based on the results of the analysis, the Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA) showed a more conservative structural behavior with a very small difference in the base shear  between directions, which was 0,872% on average, indicating a relatively balanced response in the X and Y directions. The displacement response in RSA tends to be more dominant in the X direction with an average of 194,175 mm compared to the Y direction of 179,262 mm, resulting in a difference of 7,680%, and a similar pattern is shown by the story drift with a difference of 6,975%. In contrast, Time History Analysis (THA) showed a higher sensitivity to the direction of loading and the characteristics of the earthquake input, reflected in the difference in base shear of 11,040% with a greater X-direction response. Although no structural irregularities were detected, the THA displacement response was more dominant in the Y direction with a difference of 14,442%, while the difference in story drift was relatively small, which was 0,560%.
