Abstract
The increasing traffic volume on the Gondanglegi – Sp. Balekambang road section has led to a decline in the level of service, thereby requiring road widening efforts. In the initial planning stage, the pavement structure design using the 2017 Pavement Design Manual (MDP 2017) resulted in a layer thickness configuration of AC-WC 40 mm, AC-BC 80 mm, Aggregate Base Course (LFA) Class A 300 mm, and Selected Fill 200 mm. However, with the implementation of the 2024 Pavement Design Manual (MDP 2024), which adopts a mechanistic-empirical approach, recalculations were carried out to obtain more suitable alternative designs. The analysis produced three alternative pavement structures, namely: AC-WC 40 mm, AC-BC 65 mm, LFA Class A 200 mm, LFA Class B 150 mm, and Selected Fill 200 mm; the second alternative with AC-WC 40 mm, AC-BC 65 mm, CTB 150 mm, and Selected Fill 200 mm; and the third alternative with HRS-AC 30 mm, HRS-Base 35 mm, LFA Class A 250 mm, LFA Class B 150 mm, and Selected Fill 200 mm. The results indicate that MDP 2024 provides greater flexibility in selecting pavement structures according to field conditions and material availability, while also producing more efficient and adaptive designs that have the potential to extend the pavement service life.
