Abstract
Wargasari Village in Cianjur Regency is classified as a landslide-prone area due to steep topography, unfavorable soil properties, and high rainfall intensity. Prolonged rainfall can raise the groundwater level, resulting in a reduction of soil shear strength and a decrease in the slope safety factor. This study aims to assess soil characteristics and the stability of the existing slope, analyze the impact of rainfall on slope stability, and compare the effectiveness of mitigation measures, including slope geometry modification and reinforcement using a cantilever retaining wall. The research methodology applies a combination of numerical and analytical approaches, where slope stability is evaluated using PLAXIS 2D V21 through a finite element–based numerical model, complemented by manual calculations employing the Fellenius and Rankine methods.. Analyses were carried out under dry conditions, wet conditions with the groundwater level at 1 m below the ground surface as the worst-case scenario due to rainfall, and by considering seismic loading. Soil parameters were obtained from laboratory test results and field data. The results indicate that the existing slope has a safety factor of SF < 1.5, which does not meet the minimum slope stability requirements according to SNI 8460:2017. Modifying the slope geometry to 1V:1.5H and 1V:2H increases the safety factor; however, the values remain below the acceptable criteria. Reinforcement using a cantilever retaining wall provides the most effective results, with safety factor values of 1.633 under wet conditions and 1.11 under seismic loading, while also satisfying all external stability requirements against sliding, overturning, and bearing capacity failure. Based on these findings, reinforcement using a cantilever retaining wall is recommended as the most optimal solution to improve slope stability in Wargasari Village.
