Abstract
The Special Region of Yogyakarta is an area with a high level of earthquake hazard, making disaster preparedness in school environments essential, as schools accommodate vulnerable groups such as students, teachers, and educational staff. This study was conducted at SMA UII Yogyakarta, a senior high school located in an earthquake-prone area that has recently relocated to a new site and begun using existing school buildings, thus requiring a reassessment of its disaster preparedness. The activity employed a disaster preparedness assessment using a questionnaire instrument based on the LIPI–UNESCO/ISDR (2006) framework, followed by the dissemination of assessment results through disaster awareness activities. The assessment involved school administrators, teachers, and students as respondents. The results indicate that the level of earthquake preparedness at SMA UII Yogyakarta falls within the moderate category, with a score of 63%, indicating initial preparedness capacity, particularly in terms of basic earthquake risk knowledge and institutional commitment. However, weaknesses were identified in the early warning system and the documentation of disaster related policies. The activity produced recommendations focusing on strengthening five key preparedness components—risk knowledge and attitudes, policies and guidelines, emergency response planning, early warning systems, and resource mobilization—to enhance school resilience to earthquake hazards in a sustainable manner.
