Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between Islamic religiosity and academic stress in college students. The background of this study departs from the high prevalence of academic stress experienced by students and the potential role of religiosity as one of the protective factors. The study used a correlational quantitative approach with 52 students as respondents, who were selected through purposive sampling technique. Data collection was carried out with a standardized Islamic religiosity scale and academic stress scale. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman test because one of the variables was not normally distributed. The results of the analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between Islamic religiosity and academic stress (r = .007; p = .961). This finding indicates that the level of Islamic religiosity does not directly affect the level of academic stress of students. The results of this study differ from most previous studies which state that religiosity can play a role in reducing stress. This finding opens up opportunities to explore other factors that may be more dominant in influencing academic stress as well as how students interpret and apply religiosity in their daily lives.
