Abstract

Students face various academic demands that can trigger academic stress. On the other hand, religiosity is believed to play a protective role in coping with such pressures. This study aims to determine the relationship between religiosity and academic stress among students in Yogyakarta. This study employs a quantitative correlational approach. The participants comprised 87 students from various universities in Yogyakarta, selected via accidental sampling. The measurement tools were a religiosity scale and an academic stress scale, both of which had been validated and shown to be reliable. Data analysis was conducted using Spearman's correlation test since the data were not normally distributed. The results of the study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between religiosity and academic stress (r = .358; p < .05), thus supporting the hypothesis. This study implies that religiosity plays a role in influencing academic stress levels; however, the direction of the relationship does not always reduce stress, so it needs to be understood contextually.
