Abstract
Modern lifestyles characterized by insufficient physical activity, unbalanced diets, and stress contribute to the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. The low level of public awareness regarding regular exercise, particularly among housewives and the elderly, further exacerbates this condition. In response to these issues, a community service program entitled “SEHATI: Healthy with Traditional Herbal Medicine and Active Exercise” was conducted in RT 41/RW 11, Muja Muju, Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta. The objective of this program was to enhance community knowledge, skills, and physical activity through education and hands-on practice. The service-learning method was employed, involving lecturers, laboratory staff, pharmacy students from Universitas Islam Indonesia, and pharmacists from the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) Yogyakarta. The activities included group exercise sessions, educational workshops on the use of traditional medicine, and training on the safe and marketable preparation of herbal remedies (jamu). Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-tests to assess participant’s knowledge improvement. The results demonstrated a significant increase (p<0.05) in participant’s understanding of traditional medicine after the program. This activity proved effective in improving public knowledge, skills, and motivation to adopt a healthy lifestyle through a combination of physical exercise and the utilization of traditional herbal medicine.
