About the Conference
The Ulil Albab International Conference on Islam, Environment, and Technologies (UAICIET 2025), themed “Islam, Environment, and Artificial Intelligence: The Role of Islamic Studies in Achieving Ecological and Social Justice”, brings together leading academics, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the critical intersections between religious values, environmental ethics, and emerging technologies. In the face of pressing global challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, and the disruptive impact of artificial intelligence, this conference seeks to provide a transdisciplinary platform to foster collaboration and ethical innovation.
Organized by the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), this hybrid conference (held both on-site in Yogyakarta and online) aims to generate insights and policy-relevant discourse grounded in Islamic teachings and other non-Western knowledge systems. The 2025 event continues UII’s legacy of international academic engagement, supported by collaboration with several nationally accredited journals and internationally indexed scholarly outlets, reflecting a commitment to academic excellence and global relevance.
UAICIET 2025 emphasizes the importance of integrating Islamic perspectives with global sustainability goals and AI ethics. With environmental challenges growing more severe and the influence of AI increasingly permeating social, political, and economic life, a moral and philosophical reevaluation is necessary. This is particularly crucial in Muslim-majority societies, where religious values often guide both public and private decision-making.
The conference will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and paper presentations focused on topics such as Islamic environmental ethics, AI and Islamic law, Islamic finance and green economy, digital pedagogy, and eco-theology. By convening experts from across disciplines and geographies—including Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and beyond—the conference aspires to produce actionable strategies that uphold ecological balance and social justice in line with maqasid al-sharia (higher objectives of Islamic law).
Ultimately, UAICIET 2025 aims to contribute to shaping an ethical, inclusive, and sustainable technological future by grounding global transformation in spiritual wisdom and moral responsibility. The ideas and partnerships formed through this conference will play a pivotal role in guiding policy, education, and innovation towards a more just and harmonious world.
